The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority on Wednesday approved the plan to put $25 million of metro Atlanta’s stimulus road dollars toward MARTA’s deficit.
The Atlanta Regional Commission is giving up the money, but expects MARTA to pay it back with $25 million worth of transit-related projects, like sidewalks. T
he GRTA board is appointed by the governor and exercises his approval over metro Atlanta’s project list.
But Gov. Sonny Perdue also will have to approve the $25 million separately, a MARTA statement said. He has spoken in favor of the deal.
