Griffin Police believe a month-long dispute that began at school between two 15-year-old teenagers escalated into one teen being critically shot late Tuesday night.

Police responded to the scene at about 11 p.m. to find the victim in the roadway with an injury to his head. He is in critical but stable condition at Atlanta Medical Center.

The suspect was apprehended in less than an hour.

According to the victim, he attempted to walk away from the situation and heard a gunshot, said Griffin police in a press release. The suspect fled the area without rendering aid to the victim. The release didn’t identify the suspect.

When officers arrived, the victim engaged in conversation as medical procedures were initiated and remained conscious as he was transported by airlift to Atlanta Medical Center by Emory Flight.

The alleged offender will be charged with aggravated battery and will appear before a Spalding County Juvenile Court judge Thursday morning.
