Investigators are trying to track down information about a fight at a Paulding County party that left an 18-year-old shot and in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Gregory Frasier, of Powder Springs, was one of more than 150 people at a party Saturday night on Hillcrest Court in Hiram, Paulding County Sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Brandon Gurley said Monday.
A fight broke out and shots were fired.
Deputies arrived around 10:30 p.m. and found Frasier suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Gurley said.
Frasier was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. He was listed in stable condition in the ICU on Monday afternoon, a Grady spokeswoman said.
Deputies tried to find out what happened, but the majority of the partygoers were uncooperative, Gurley said.
“The scene was described by deputies as extremely chaotic,” he said. “There were over 150 people on the scene when deputies began arriving.”
Gurley said he believes there is only one suspect, but a description was not available Monday.
Gurley said there were a few parents on the scene when police arrived, but most of the crowd was between the ages of 17 and 20. Parents began arriving to pick up their teenagers after news of the shooting spread.
“We believe someone at the party has more information about the incident and are hoping someone calls in anonymously,” he said.
Police are unsure what type of celebration it was, but believe the teens were attending a graduation party. Deputies were also called to the same house earlier in the evening for a complaint of a loud party, Gurley said.
Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
