Soldier from Dalton dies in Iraq

A U.S. soldier from Dalton has died in Iraq, the Defense Department said Monday.

Army Pvt. Thomas E. Lee III died Friday in the city of Mosul. An explosive device struck his vehicle, the Defense Department said.

Lee, 20, was assigned to the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas.

Lee joined the Army in February 2008. He deployed to Iraq in December.

He is the second Dalton resident to die in combat in Iraq. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Juan Lopez was killed in an ambush in Al Anbar province in June 2004.
