A recent robbery at a Douglas County McDonald’s brings new meaning to “Mac Attack.”
Nearly one week after an eldery man was robbed and assaulted inside a restroom at a Lithia Springs McDonald’s, police continue to search for the 23-year-old suspect they say has a crime record in Georgia, Alabama and California.
According to Det. Joshua Skinner of the Douglas County Police Department, Robert Stonecypher, 70, was on his way home to Birmingham with church friends when they stopped at the Thornton Road restaurant for a quick bite. The group had just visited the King Tut exhibit at the Atlanta Civic Center.
At roughly 4:50 p.m., Stonecypher was using the men’s restroom when police say Henry Dearman approached him from behind. The suspect reached around Stonecypher’s waist with his right arm and used his other hand to rip off the man’s back pocket.
The men fell to the floor in a struggle. As Stonecypher screamed, Dearman grew more violent, Skinner said. A female employee, hearing the calls for help, opened the door to the restroom and Dearman fled the restaurant with Stonecypher’s wallet containing several debit and credit cards and $400.
Police say Dearman’s girlfriend, 19-year-old Aisha Jackson, was waiting for him in a car. Jackson was arrested hours later when she returned to the same McDonald’s that night to order food at the drive-thru. Another McDonald’s is roughly a quarter mile away and the area has dozens of fast-food restaurants, he said.
“That was not a very smart thing to do.”
Jackson, originally from Moreno Valley, Ca., has been charged with being a party to the crime of robbery by force. This is her first offense.
Dearman, from San Bernardino, Ca., has an extensive criminal history ranging from car theft, counterfeiting, fighting with police and giving false names, Skinner said.
“They had a crime spree and then went East,” Skinner said.
Their last known address was in Birmingham, he said. Police continue to investigate leads.
