Perdue will sign the legislation at a Decatur elementary school surrounded by members of the Atlanta Falcons, including quarterback Matt Ryan.

The legislation requires each school system to conduct an annual fitness assessment program on students by the 2011-2012 school year.

Students won’t be punished if they fail to live up to the district standards. But supporters said the plan would help identify and reward students who meet new fitness benchmarks.
