Student discipline reports in Georgia
Schools self-reported more than a million disciplinary events to the state during the 2007-2008 school year. They included sex, drugs and weapons offenses, and physical assaults, as well many more infractions that were less serious.
The data reflects the number of infractions. Multiple students may be accused in the same incident, or one incident may result in multiple infractions for the same student.
Over the years, some schools have struggled with the state reporting system. Districts often have their own set of codes for conduct violations that they must map to the state codes, which have different definitions.
Some schools have had software or data entry errors, state officials say. In addition, some districts or schools may be more diligent about tracking and reporting every offense than others.
