Metro Atlanta commuters can expect a soggy ride home Thursday as widespread rain moves in from the northwest.
At noon, the rain, which developed ahead of a cold front, had reached Cartersville and Canton, the National Weather Service said.
The chance of afternoon rain is 80 percent, tapering off to 50 percent overnight, forecasters said.
The rain should end by daybreak Friday, leaving mostly sunny skies, with morning lows in the mid-30s and afternoon highs in the upper 40s.
Friday night will be partly cloudy and colder, with lows in the upper 20s.
Sunny skies are forecast for the weekend, with highs in the low to mid-50s and lows in the mid- to upper 20s.
The next chance of rain will come on Tuesday, continuing into Wednesday, the Weather Service said.
