Dougherty Co. jail inmate dies in apparent suicide

Albany — A Dougherty County jail inmate has died after he apparently hanged himself in his cell.

County Coroner Emma Quimbley said 56-year-old Lester Lee Goodman died Thursday evening after he was found hanging in his cell.

Sheriff’s Lt. Lance Montgerard said deputies found Goodman unresponsive at about 6:40 p.m.

Goodman was in jail for property-related crimes, but authorities said he had an extensive criminal history.

Quimbley ruled the death a suicide.

An autopsy will be done at the state crime lab in Atlanta.
