Expect another winter dress rehearsal overnight, with frost expected in Atlanta’s northern suburbs and below-freezing temperatures in the mountains.

The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for 4 to 8 a.m. Monday, with the lowest temperatures in metro Atlanta expected north of the city. A Canadian high-pressure system, clear skies and light winds will combine to allow temperatures to drop into the lower- to mid-30s.

The freeze warning also from 4 to 8 a.m. covers the Dahlonega and Cleveland areas and the North Georgia mountains, and calls for temperatures dropping to the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Much colder temperatures loom late in the week.

“After Saturday, we can expect the coldest weather we’ve seen yet,” said Weather Service forecaster Robert Beasley.

But first, some rain.

A 50 percent chance of showers is expected by Wednesday night, with light drizzle continuing through the end of the week. The heaviest precipitation should pass through Thursday night into Friday morning, though overall no more than an inch of rainfall is predicted, Beasley said.

Once the rain clears out temperatures could drop as much as 20 degrees below the current seasonal averages.

“By Monday (Nov. 17), we could see lows into the 20s and highs in the 40s,” Beasley said.

In the meantime, a familiar forecast prevails. Monday will be sunny, with a high of 63. Same for Tuesday, save for a slight chance of showers that will increase to 40 percent by Wednesday afternoon.
