3rd-grade student arrested for threats at school

Athena — A third grader in Athens was placed in juvenile detention Tuesday after authorities said he brought a knife to school and threatened two classmates.

Athens-Clarke Police said the 10-year-old boy at Fowler Drive Elementary tried to attack a student and threatened another for turning him in.

The youngster was charged with aggravated assault, making a terrorist threat and possession of a weapon on school grounds. He was released into his mother’s custody on the condition he receive counseling.

Police said the boy told them he purchased the knife for $2 to protect himself from rival gang members.
