Georgia teen a ‘Carnegie Hero’ for rescue

A California woman hit in the face with a meat cleaver while trying to rescue a neighbor from an armed assailant, and a Georgia teen who save a man from drowning, were among 25 people awarded Carnegie medals on Thursday for their heroism.
Fifty-two-year old Diane D. Cox, of Newbury Park, California, rushed to the aid of 33-year-old Sandra Ruiz, who was being attacked by a man wielding a meat cleaver in the courtyard of her apartment complex in August 2007.
Eighteen-year-old Kyle Christopherson, 18, of Oxford, Georgia, saved 47-year-old Daniel C. Broaddus from drowning in the Atlantic Ocean at Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, on July 23, 2007. Oxford is in Newton County east of Atlanta.
