An armored truck driver will face criminal charges in the death of a Tucker Middle School student who was hit by the truck as she boarded a school bus.

Police obtained arrest warrants Tuesday charging Brian Gaines, 49, of Snellville with vehicular homicide, a felony, as well as driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane and overtaking a school bus, police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

The child, Olivia Hayes, died during the Labor Day weekend. She was struck Wednesday morning on Hugh Howell Road. Police said Gaines tried to stop the truck, but it slid on the wet road into the bus and the girl.
