Educators sanctioned in Georgia
Georgia teachers must obey the Code of Ethics for Educators, a set of rules for all state-certified school employees. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission maintains a listing of educators found to have violated the standards outlined in the code.
Search the AJC's database of Georgia Professional Standards Commission reports to find statistics for sanctioned educators reported since 2003.
The database includes all certified employees the PCS had school districts listed for in October, 2007, the most recent complete data available. Some of the reported sanctions, such as criminal actions listed on job applications, could have occurred prior to 2003, but were reported at a later date. Numbers of sanctions could also be influenced by each district's investigators.
What's not included in our database:
- Districts with no reported sanctions against teachers working in October 2007
- Open cases or cases under investigation
- Educators not listed with a Georgia school district and building
- In addition, some categories, such as abandonment of contract and failure to make a required report, are not required to be reported to the Professional Standards Commission by all districts. These violations were excluded from the database for consistency.
For definitions of specific standards, read a PSC brochure concerning ethics violations: Click here (PDF). Information on specific educators can be obtained by filing an Open Records Act request with the PCS.
