No one transportation fix is a silver bullet for traffic congestion, said experts who spoke Monday at the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

The speakers came from regions across the country that have started using tools like private investment and new taxes to fund transportation projects.

Metro Chamber officials said their experience shows Atlanta needs a mixture of solutions, not just one. They held the forum and invited the speakers in an effort to influence policy makers and legislators in the months leading up to the 2009 legislative session.

The chamber was part of a broad-based coalition that fought for transportation funding in the Legislature last year. They lost by three votes.

"We're late. We are very late," said Sam Williams, president of the chamber. "If we chose a solution today, you couldn't drive or sit on it for another eight to 10 years."
