Salmonella found in Deli Fresh brand tuna salad
Discovery made during Agriculture Department's routine sampling

Salmonella bacteria has been found in Deli Fresh tuna salad made by Allison's Gourmet Kitchens and sold in Ingles supermarkets, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

The department found the bacteria in a 12-ounce package marked "Use by 7/29/08 B1." Allison's is based in Moore, Okla.

Salmonella bacteria can cause an infection marked by nausea, fever and diarrhea. Those with weakened immune systems, including children and the elderly, are at higher risk of such a food-borne infection.

The contaminated tuna salad was discovered as part of the department's routine sampling program. Ingles has pulled the salad from its shelves. No information was available on whether other Georgia stores stock the product.
