Lightning from the storms sparked house fires in Gwinnett and north Fulton counties. No injuries were reported in the fires.
The risk of afternoon and evening thunderstorms remains in the forecast for metro Atlanta through the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
The chance of storms is 20 percent tonight, 50 percent on Thursday and 20 percent Friday, forecasters said. Highs will be in the mid-80s Thursday and Friday.
The outlook for the weekend calls for a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday, with highs each day near 90 degrees.
