Lightning from storms Monday night sparked several fires in the northwest suburbs, and forecasters predict a chance of more thunderstorms the rest of the week.
Seven buildings in Cherokee County were hit by lightning, while strong winds downed about three dozen trees in the Eagle Watch subdivision near Woodstock, the National Weather Service said. Some trees fell onto homes, causing minor damage, the Weather Service said.

Trees were also blown down in the Acworth area of north Cobb County, and in Paulding County near Dallas.
No injuries were reported. The storms swept through the area between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. and prompted the Weather Service to issue severe thunderstorm warnings for Cherokee and Cobb counties.
Forecasters said winds circulating around a high pressure system off the Georgia coast will continue to bring moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into the state on Tuesday, raising the risk of afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
The forecast for metro Atlanta calls for a 20 to 30 percent chance of thunderstorms through the weekend.
High temperatures will be in the upper 80s through Thursday, climbing into the low 90s Friday through Sunday. Lows will be in the mid- to upper 60s, the Weather Service said.
