Fulton schools get new principals

New principals have been named at Dunwoody Springs Charter Elementary and Alpharetta High School.

Ivy Gainey, who ended the school year as assistant principal of Mountain Park Elementary School in Roswell, will lead the elementary school. Mary Anne Charron will return to school administration and take the helm at the high school, after spending two years in the private sector.

Gainey has worked for the Fulton County School System for the past 13 years, including a stint at Esther Jackson Elementary School in Roswell as a teacher and assistant principal.

In addition to various educational certifications, Gainey has a bachelor's degree from Winthrop University and a master's from the State University of West Georgia.

Charron comes to the system from Georgia's Leadership Institute for School Improvement, which works with systems to improve student achievement and graduation rates. She also worked for 16 years as a principal in Gwinnett County Public Schools, where she started her career as a teacher.

Charron has a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and a master's degree from the University of Georgia.
