Amani's father called 911 shortly after 8 a.m. to report his son missing, Paulding sheriff's Cpl. Brandon Gurley said.

Gurley said Amani was last seen about 2:40 a.m. at his father's residence.

Amani's mother had been notified and was assisting in the search, Gurley said.

An Amber Alert was issued and search teams including the Paulding County Sheriff's Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Cobb County SWAT and mounted police, Georgia State Patrol aviation unit, and civilian volunteers looked for him in the wooded areas surrounding the neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The boy was examined by emergency technicians, but found to be uninjured. Family members took him to WellStar Paulding Hospital for a check-up.

Gurley said the cause of Amani's disappearance was still under investigation.
