Tax day is April 15 and many local post offices are extending their hours to make sure taxpayers can skid in under the wire.

But some taxpayers living in counties affected by the severe storms and tornadoes of March will get a break this year from the Internal Revenue Service.

If you're a resident or business owner in counties declared a federal disaster area, you have until May 19 to file your tax return. That includes residents of Bartow, Burke, Dekalb, Floyd, Fulton, Jefferson and Polk.

For everyone else, the hour draws nigh.

Six post offices will stay open until midnight Tuesday. They are:

• Atlanta Main, 3900 Crown Rd.

• Boggs Road, 1605 Boggs Rd., Duluth

• Decatur Main, 520 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur

• Sandy Springs, 227 Sandy Springs Place, Atlanta

• Marietta Main, 257 Lawrence St., Marietta

• Athens Main, 575 Olympic Dr., Athens.
