The House body slammed a bill aimed at tightening regulation of professional wrestling in Georgia.

By a 105-57 vote, the House killed Senate Bill 413, which would have eliminated the exemption that has spared World Wrestling Entertainment from state regulations and would also subject performers to random drug tests.

Rep. Jim Cole (R-Forsyth) argued that the bill protects "the health, welfare and safety of performers and fans."

But the House disagreed.

The WWE, the top professional wrestling circuit, is exempt from state regulation because of a 2005 statute that excludes all organizations with assets of more than $25 million.

The bill is considered fallout for the WWE since wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son before taking his own life in the family's Fayetteville home in late June.
