WOODSTOCK

Andrea Bartell, 53, loved to sing, garden

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Daniel Bartell considers himself an adept shower singer.

His wife, on the other hand, was the real deal. Andrea Bartell sang in an all-state chorus in high school. As an adult, she sang soprano in the choir at Woodstock’s Timothy Lutheran Church and melody as a member of the Song of Atlanta Show Chorus.

“She had a good voice,” Mr. Bartell said. “And she knew much more about music — terms and stuff — than I did. She loved music.”

Andrea L. Bartell, 53, of Woodstock died Dec. 28 of ovarian cancer at Northside Hospital. The funeral is 7 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory, which is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Bartell attended the University of Nebraska. She had worked as an administrative assistant with American Southern Insurance Co. the past decade.

Besides a love for music, Mrs. Bartell also had a green thumb.

“I never got to cut the grass till the riding lawn mower broke,” her husband said. “She never let me ride it. That was hers. She was always planting flowers and doing stuff outside to the landscape. She did it up until she got sick.”

Additional survivors include a daughter, Emily Bartell of Woodstock; her father, Fred Schoneweis of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Claudia Ellis of Brewster, Mass.; and two brothers, John Schoneweis of Richlands, Va., and Fred Schoneweis of Lincoln, Neb.
