Pat Danyo had always suffered from heart disease, but her son said teaching at Druid Hills United Methodist Church kept her heart pumping.

“She got rejuvenated from that,” said her son, Stephen Danyo of Washington. “She had a weak heart and had quadruple bypass surgery in the late 1980s. But when she started working at the preschool 20 years ago, it rejuvenated her. She took teaching seriously, and had a wicked sense of humor.”

Kathryn “Pat” Danyo, 70, of Avondale Estates died Saturday from complications of heart failure at Emory University Hospital.

A graveside service is noon Friday at Mellwood Cemetery. A.S. Turner & Sons is in charge of arrangements.

A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Druid Hills United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Danyo graduated from St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame. She taught mathematics at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City.

At the Druid Hills preschool, she was called “Mrs. Pat.” She introduced 4- and 5-year-olds to Beethoven, impressionistic art and show tunes.

“Parents felt equally scooped up in the magic,” preschool director Margaret Waterbury said.

Additional survivors include her husband, John Danyo of Avondale Estates; two daughters, Emily Roman of Avondale Estates and Andrea Kubis of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Paul Woll of Prescott, Ariz., and Nicholas Woll of Bradenton, Fla.; a stepsister, Rita Charland of San Diego; and a grandson.
