DUNWOODY

Jim Mowry Jr., 73, attorney, Bulldogs fan

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Friday, November 07, 2008

Jim Mowry Jr. was a huge fan of University of Georgia football and had season tickets for 42 years.

“We didn’t miss many home games and we went to a selected few out of town,” said his wife, Lib Mowry of Dunwoody. “I don’t think there are too many others who had season tickets as long.”

Mr. Mowry, 73, of Dunwoody died Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta following a stroke. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Peachtree Christian Church. Cremation Society of the South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mowry was a UGA graduate, of course. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a law degree there.

He worked for several large Atlanta law firms before starting his own law practice dealing with wills, estates and real estate, his wife said. He retired in May.

Mr. Mowry was an avid fitness enthusiast and long-distance runner who ran the Peachtree Road Race many times, she said.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Cindy King of Alexandria, Va., and Cheryl Owen of Marietta; a son, Bryan Mowry of Marietta; and five grandchildren.
