A five-year-old girl drowned in her Cumming pool Tuesday night.
The girl’s baby sitter was watching the girl swim in a pool in the Abington subdivision around 8 p.m. Tuesday when she went inside, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Frank Huggins said.
The baby sitter asked her 35-year-old sister to watch the child while she went inside the house get some clothes.
“She came back 10 minutes later and the girl was at the bottom of the pool,” Huggins said.
Paramedics rushed the girl to Emory Johns Creek Hospital, where doctors restored her heartbeat, Huggins said.
The girl was then flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Huggins said.
Deputies are investigating the drowning and have not filed any charges.
Huggins said the baby sitter and the sister are both 35, but there was a language barrier.
Deputies are withholding the girl’s identity while they notify family.
