Sandy Springs 18-year-old charged in mother’s fatal shooting

Police arrested a Sandy Springs 18-year-old late Tuesday night and charged him with fatally shooting his mother earlier in the day.

Alexander E. Cordell, 18, of 8600 Roberts Drive, is being charged with murder in the death of his mother, 40-year-old Shani D. Fecht.

Fecht was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in her Isuzu Rodeo near Cordell’s apartment complex, police said.

It appeared that Fecht was shot as she drove up to The Preserve at Dunwoody apartment complex, then her SUV rolled back across the street toward the Hunters Glen apartments, police spokesman Lt. Steve Rose said.

Sandy Springs SWAT arrested Cordell just before 10 p.m., at the Dunwoody Place shopping center at 8725 Roswell Road.
