Forsyth takes on school redistricting

With the start of the new school year, the Forsyth County Board of Education is getting ready to take on an old, but hot topic: redistricting.
New attendance districts had been expected to be established before the end of the last school year.
• 2009 CRCT
• 2009 High School Graduation Test
• 2008 SAT: School-by-school
• List: Students promoted despite failing CRCT

But with parents still complaining, the board decided to wait until the new school year — and after the summer elections — to settle on a redistricting plan.
A Draft 5 of the redistricting plan will be available for public feedback online and in schools from Sept. 19, at 10 a.m., until Oct. 3, at 5 p.m.
The feedback will go to the school board on Oct. 9 at 4 p.m., with the goal of having a final district map for 2009-10 by Oct.16.
School attendance lines are being redrawn to accommodate the 2009 opening of:
• Brookwood Elementary, a two-story school located on Vaughn Drive
• Whitlow Elementary, a one-story school located on Castleberry Road
• Haw Creek Elementary and Lakeside Middle, two two-story schools located adjacent to each other on Echols Road.
• Lambert High, which is located next to Sharon Elementary on Nichols Road. Lambert is a two-story design similar to West Forsyth High and will open without a senior class.
