Roswell will get $75,000 to help repair damages to Roswell Area Park left by a Feb. 26 windstorm. The storm toppled more than 300 trees and left an estimated $600,000 in damages. The state funds can be used for tree replacement, equipment repairs or purchases and facility repairs. The 80-acre park on Woodstock Road is one of the most used in Roswell.

In addition, the city will receive $30,000 to help defray the cost of drilling test wells for municipal water. Several months ago, the city decided to look underground for a "drought-proof" source of drinking water. The city now provides water to 5,500 households, a small portion of its population. It uses a combination of Fulton County water supplies and water from Big Creek. City officials say they want to investigate the feasibility of expanding that capacity using deep wells.

The two projects were among 470 grants approved by the state legislature. State Rep. Harry Geisinger (R-Roswell) and state Sen. Dan Moody (R-Alpharetta) appeared Monday at the Roswell City Council meeting to announce the grants.
