Some motorists are getting the wrong idea about a project designed to prevent accidents on Ga. 400.
They're seeing concrete pads being put in the median and asking why sidewalks are being installed down the middle of Ga. 400.

"We've had over 50 calls and e-mails [since the work started last week]," said Teri Pope, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation. "It's kind of funny in that this is a safety project, and we're not about to put pedestrians in the mix."
The DOT is installing cable barriers that are designed to reduce injuries and deaths by stopping out-of-control vehicles from crossing the median and striking cars traveling in the opposite direction.
The concrete pads support the cable system. They also eliminate the need for cutting the grass under the cable, Pope said.
Crews started putting down the concrete pads last week.
