For several days in July Roswell will host a traveling, 240-foot-long replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The faux granite replica, called the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall, carries the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died or are missing in Vietnam.

The memorial replica will be open to the public from July 4 -6 at Roswell Funeral Home and Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, said Tony Papel, the funeral home manager.

The wall panels are expected to arrive on July 1, by motorcycle police escort from Augusta. Installation will take several days. Once the memorial replica is in place, free, public viewing will made available 24-hours a day, Papel said.

The 8-foot-tall panels, stretching 240 feet, are a three-quarter scale replica of the memorial in Washington D.C. The replica has been displayed in more than 200 cities since it was created in 1990 by a network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service companies.

It is intended as a service to Americans who may not be able to travel to Washington to view the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Papel said.
