Jury awards $1 million to Henry nurse

A Fayette County jury has awarded $1.05 million to a Henry County nurse who almost died when her bowel was injured during surgery, the nurse’s lawyer, Brandon Hornsby, said Monday.

The jury reached its verdict late Friday in favor of Cynthia Bennett and her husband, Paul, and against Fayetteville surgeon JuDonn Adams and New Millennium Obstetrics and Gynecology LLC.

The couple filed suit over a surgery Adams performed in December 2003.

During the surgery, Cynthia Bennett’s bowel was injured and Adams failed to diagnose and properly treat it, Hornsby said.
