Jenkins, who was also charged with cruelty to children, is scheduled to appear in Henry County magistrate court at 8:30 a.m.

Jayla Caton died Saturday afternoon of severe head injuries she suffered on Friday, said Henry police Capt. Jason Bolton.

Jenkins had been left in charge of the girl when the incident took place, Bolton said. It’s not clear whether Jenkins was related to the child.

“He [Jenkins] was there when 911 was called,” Bolton said.

Police arrested Jenkins at the hospital, Children’s Health Care of Atlanta, where the family had been keeping vigil for the child.
