A 45-year-old McDonough man was found dead in his boat Wednesday afternoon at Lake Lanier.

Preliminary investigation indicated the man died from an accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, according to Maj. Jeff Strickland of the Hall County Sheriff's Department. Police did not immediately release the man's name, pending notification of his next of kin.

The man reportedly took his cabin cruiser Tuesday night to the service dock at the Holiday Marina for repair. The marina is off Holiday Road in Buford.

"He spent the night there with the generator running," Strickland said. "It appeared the fumes from the generator filled the boat and caused the death of the victim."

The man's body was found by marina personnel Wednesday morning. The interior contained high levels of carbon monoxide, Strickland said.
