New Gwinnett school principals named

The Gwinnett County School Board has named eight administrators to new positions as the district prepares for growth in the upcoming school year.
The state’s largest school system, which has about 158,000 students, will open 11 new or replacement campuses in the fall.
The administrative positions were created as principals were tapped to open new schools and left vacancies. Most of the new administrators will move to their new jobs on July 1. More appointments will be made Thursday as the school board gathers for a special meeting on personnel.
Named to new posts were:
• David Hopson, the former principal of Peachtree Ridge High, is now leading Grayson High in Loganville. Hopson, an educator since 1981, has a bachelor’s degree in physical education, speech and recreation and a master’s degree in educational leadership.
• Crystal Collins, a data administrator at Rebecca Minor Elementary, has been promoted to principal of J.C. Magill Elementary in Loganville. Collins, an educator since 1995, has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in early childhood education.
• Christina Wimmer, an assistant principal at Parsons Elementary, has been named principal of Rebecca Minor Elementary in Lilburn. Wimmer, an educator since 1994, has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in early childhood education and a specialist’s degree in curriculum and instruction.
• Amy Bryan, an assistant principal at Riverside Elementary, has been promoted to lead Sycamore Elementary in Sugar Hill. Bryan, an educator since 1975, has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and mental retardation, a master’s degree in early childhood education and a specialist’s degree in administration and supervision.
• Devon Williams, principal of Shiloh Middle, will open the new Couch Middle School in Grayson. Williams, an educator since 1994, has a bachelor’s degree in art education, a master’s degree in technology education and a specialist’s degree in occupational studies educational leadership.
• Susan Downs, assistant principal at Lanier Middle, has been promoted to the top job at Snellville Middle in Snellville. Downs, an educator since 1977, has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in curriculum.
• Dorothy Parker-Jarrett, assistant principal of South Gwinnett High, has been promoted as principal of Summerour Middle in Norcross. Parker-Jarrett, an educator since 1992, has a bachelor’s degree in home economics and a master’s degree in special education.
• Jane Stegall, a principal mentor at the school district’s Division of Teaching and Learning, was named interim principal of Central Gwinnett High in Lawrenceville. The school’s former principal, Valerie Clark, retired in December.
