The Gwinnett Braves have a mascot. They’ve got a play-by-play team. Now, they’re looking for the voice of the team at their new stadium near Lawrenceville.

The Braves announced Wednesday that the team will hold auditions for its emcee, who will entertain and pump up fans and run in-game promotions on game days, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 17 outside Nordstrom’s at the Mall of Georgia.

Just as with auditions for humans to fill the costume of the team’s giant groundhog mascot, Chopper, candidates who want the job will have to do a bit of razzle dazzle to make the cut. The team says they’ll have to perform a one-minute skit explaining why they should be the emcee, and then will be asked to handle the voice duties for potential in-game promotions.

The Gwinnett Braves’ radio announcing team, Tony Schiavone and Judd Hickinbotham, and a personality from Sports Radio 790 The Zone will judge the auditions, according to the team.

The winning candidate will need to work each of the team’s 72 home games, but will get paid for the work, Gwinnett Braves spokeswoman Courtney Lawson said. Exactly how much remains to be determined, she said.

Canidates can register at gwinnettbraves.com, or simply show up the day of auditions, according to the team.

The Gwinnett Braves are scheduled to begin play in their new stadium under construction on Buford Drive in April.
