Give toys or food, get flu shot in Suwanee

Five cans of food, pet food or a new unwrapped $10 toy will get you a flu shot at Gwinnett Urgent Care in Suwannee.
Dr. Ronald Perry, owner of the clinic, said he decided to offer the shots after learning the shelves at the North Gwinnett Co-Op Food Pantry were collecting dust. He also decided to extend the goodwill to the Humane Society and Toys for Tots.
“We’re covering everybody,” he said, “adults, children and furry friends.”
Perry said the food bank donation must be at least five cans of food, but the Humane Society will accept anything from food to litter to toys or bedding.
So far, the doctor has administered 2,500 vaccines and collected more than 11,000 cans of food for the Co-Op.
Perry said he has about 2,500 more shots to go. Patients must sign a consent form to make sure there are no allergies or previous adverse reactions to the flu shot.
“Once you do that, you’re out the door in five minutes,” he said.
The clinic, located in Suite 4101, 1300 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. No appointment is needed.
