Residents awakened by Molotov cocktail in home

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Two Snellville residents had a rude awakening Wednesday when someone tossed a Molotov cocktail through a ground floor window into their living room.

Two people happened to be sleeping in the living room that night when the explosive device came sailing through the window shortly before 5 a.m., igniting a nearby chair, said Gwinnett fire Capt. Thomas Rutledge.

The pair jolted awake and quickly removed the burning chair from the house, Rutledge said. The fire caused minimal damage to the carpet and wall of the living room.

Fire investigators have not identified the motive or suspects in the case. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett Fire Arson and Explosives Section at 678-518-4890.
