Two suspected members of an East Coast robbery crew who impersonate police while ripping off drug dealers were arrested Thursday in Gwinnett.
They targeted narcotics dealers and netted more than $2 million in cash and hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, according to Stacey Bourbonnais, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department. The suspects were arrested on warrants out of New York. It was not known Friday whether the men had committed any robberies in Gwinnett.
Bourbonnais said the robbery crew consisted of Dominican Republic nationals. The suspects allegedly posed as police when invading drug traffickers’ homes in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachussetts, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
Gwinnett deputies learned of Sergio Antonio Alejo, 47, and Alfredo Antonio Acosta, 23, while investigating someone else who was arrested on unrelated aggravated assault charges several weeks ago. Further investigation of Alejo and Acosta revealed they were wanted for indictments in New York on robbery conspiracy, Bourbonnais said.
Alejo also was wanted on cocaine and firearms charges.
Authorities said the two men had been living in Buford, but they were arrested at separate locations in Duluth and Atlanta.
The investigation was conducted in conjunction with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the DeKalb County Drug Task Force, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the New York City Police Department and the U.S. attorney’s office in the Eastern District of New York.
