An early morning fire Saturday that damaged two classroom trailers behind a Snellville high school has been declared arson.

Fire investigators have determined that the blaze was intentionally set underneath one of the trailers at Brookwood High on Dogwood Road, according to Gwinnett fire Capt. Thomas Rutledge.

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 7 a.m. after a coach and several students from the cross country team saw smoke coming from behind the building. The coach discovered a fire burning under the trailer and called 911.

The flames spread quickly and engulfed the trailer before fire units arrived, said Rutledge. The fire caused extensive heat damage to a second nearby trailer. There was no damage reported to the main school building.
