The discovery of a woman's body on the railroad tracks near Lawrenceville is being investigated as a potential homicide, Gwinnett police said Tuesday.
An employee of CSX Railroad called police at 4:26 p.m. Monday and reported something that appeared to be a body was on the railroad tracks near Gloster Road and Oak Road, according to Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman.

When officers arrived to investigate, they found the body of an unidentified woman lying on the tracks about 100 yards away from the three-way stop intersection. The woman is described as a black female in her late teens to early 20s, wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt.
She was not carrying any identification, police said.
Railroad workers had reportedly called 911 around 9:40 p.m. Sunday because a train operator thought the train struck something. Officers conducted a search of the area on foot, but found nothing at the time.
It was not immediately clear how the woman died because an autopsy was still being performed on Tuesday. Spellman said "this incident will be investigated as a homicide until any evidence surfaces that may prove otherwise."
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Gwinnett police homicide unit at 770-513-5300.
