Suwanee Police Chief Mike Jones has been named the Chief among Chiefs.
Jones was named the president of the 500-member Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police on Tuesday. The group is holding its summer conference in Savannah.

The association includes chiefs of Georgia's many law enforcement agencies, from the state, counties, cities and colleges.
Jones has 34 years experience in law enforcement. He was with the Rome Police Department for 24 years. He has been Suwanee's chief for 10 years.
He holds an undergraduate degree from Berry College and a master's in public administration from Columbus State, where he is an adjunct professor.
As president of the association for one year, Jones wants to focus on the enforcement of traffic laws, retention issues and in providing have an influence on how traffic laws are enforced throughout the state.
Also at the conference, Duluth Police Chief Randy Belcher and his department have been named the 2008 recipients of the Motorola/Dr. Curtis E. McClung Award of Excellence. The award is given annually to a deserving agency in recognition of its use of an innovative program in the pursuit of law enforcement excellence. The Duluth Police Department was selected the winner for its proactive community outreach program, Operation Drive Smart.
Operation Drive Smart is a multi-phase program targeting high school students about teen driving issues. Schools across the state volunteer to participate in Operation Drive Smart.
