The second man in an alleged bail bondsman scam turned himself in at the Gwinnett Sheriff's Department Thursday night. Atlanta resident 41-year-old Marlon Gaitan made arrangements through his attorney to turn himself over to authorities, according to Stacey Bourbonnais, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's department said Gaitan and 38-year-old Michael Samnik of Roswell stole $6,300 last month from a family attempting to bail a loved one out of jail by pretending to be employees of a Lawrenceville bonding company.

Gaitan allegedly approached the Hispanic family in a restaurant and offered to help them as a Spanish translator for criminal matters. Later the two men told the family they were bondsmen.
After the family gave the fraudulent bondsmen the money, Gaitan and Samnik reportedly continued the charade by going into the jail to post bond, but then returned and asked the family to produce the incarcerated person's passport. When the family left to find the passport, Gaitan and Samnik took off.
Police arrested Samnik in Alabama but continued to search for Gaitan.
Gaitan is charged with theft by deception and posing as a bondsman. He also faces an additional warrant for theft of a motor vehicle in an unrelated case that occurred earlier in June.
