Property taxes to support Gwinnett County government are going down slightly, but don't expect more than a lonely fast-food lunch out of the deal — if that.
The County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to roll back the tax rate charged to homeowners to $10.97 on every $1,000 of taxable value. The rate charged on 2007 tax bills was $11.08 per $1,000 of value.

The change means an $8.80 tax cut for the owner-occupant of a $200,000 home whose property was not reassessed this year.
However, homeowners who saw their property values rise due to reassessment will see a bigger bill when tax statements are mailed next month.
The cut does not apply to Gwinnett County school taxes, which will remain the same as 2007, or to city taxes for residents of any of the county's municipalities.
The rollback offsets increased revenues the county would have received as a result of reassessment. State law requires Georgia governments to roll back taxes to remain revenue neutral or advertise an unpopular tax increase to voters.
County property taxes are due no later than Nov. 15.
