Gwinnett County authorities said a 13-year-old girl is recovering at an area hospital in stable condition after being shot Friday during an apartment robbery.

Two armed men kicked in the door of a family's apartment on Noble Forest Drive in Norcross and demanded money from the family at gunpoint, Gwinnett police said.

One of the suspects shot 13-year-old Elsa Ortiz in the abdomen, police said. The intruders stole the father's 2005 Dodge Caravan and abandoned it a short time later in another area of the apartment parking lot.

A Gwinnett police investigator spoke with doctors at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston on Monday. The investigator said the girl's outlook is good, according to Cpl. David Schiralli, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

"They said she is in stable condition and expected to fully recover," Schiralli said.

The victims reportedly described one of the suspects as a black man between 25 and 30 years old and between 200 and 230 pounds with his hair in dreadlocks. They were unable to provide a detailed description of the other suspect because he was wearing a mask, according to a police report.
