Gwinnett County's Water Resources Department announced Wednesday that some 2,500 gallons of partially treated sewage spilled into a tributary of the Chattahoochee River earlier this year.
The state Environmental Protection Division fined the county $1,500, which the department says it will "pay without objection."

The spill was caused by a clogged junction box, which splits the flow of sewage, Feb. 22 at the Crooked Creek Water Reclamation Facility.
Because the event was not considered a chronic, recurring event, the penalty was limited to a fine, the county said.
The spill caused "minimal environmental harm," the county noted, because it was diluted by a heavy rain.
The EPD issued its "expedited enforcement order" on April 11.
