The Georgia Department of Transportation will seek public comment Thursday on $10 million in proposed road improvements under consideration for the Snellville area.

Transportation officials will display maps and share plans for four proposed street improvements at an open house Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Snellville City Hall, 2342 Oak Rd. Neighbors will be able to ask questions and share their opinions on the project, which will add access roads along the U.S. 78 corridor.

The road enhancements are part of the Evermore Community Improvement District's plan to provide new entrances to businesses whose access will be limited by a median under construction in the U.S. Highway 78 expansion project.

"This will extend a parallel access street behind the existing businesses on 78," said Brett Harrell, executive director of Evermore CID, whose studies prompted some of the proposed road changes. "It should improve not only safety, but also mobility between those businesses."

Neighbors also will be able to travel access roads between communities without having to use U.S. Highway 78, he said.

The four projects under consideration are:

— Cambridge Street and McGee Road intersection allignment at US 78 to provide a safe entry point with a traffic signal eliminating the need for U-turns. The project is estimated at $1.3 million.

— The extension of Sharp Trail from Rockbridge to Davis Road. The improvement will provide enhanced access and circulation parallel to U.S. 78 linking several intersections with traffic signals. The project is estimaed at $2.1 million.

— A parallel access street connecting Hewatt Road with Parkwood Road to improve safety, mobility and circulation of traffic. The project is estimated at $2.6 million.

— A parallel access street connecting Parkwood Road to Britt Road with additional connections to Westside Court and Easy Street. The improvement will enhance safety, mobility and circulation of traffic. The project is estimated at $4 million.

For those who cannot attend the public meeting, comments can be sent to:

Glenn Bowman, P.E., State Environmental Engineer, 3993 Aviation Circle Atlanta, GA 30336-1593. Written statements should be received by April 1.
