There's plenty to do while waiting for cyclists

The banner has gone up, the jazz band has nailed the songs they will perform and the face painters have stocked an array of colors. Buford is ready for the Tour de Georgia bicyclists who will zoom through town today.

To make sure you get a good view, you should arrive in Buford before 11 a.m., preferably around 10 a.m. Head to the amphitheater on Main Street, near the Bona Allen Mansion, where most of the action will take place, both on and off the street.

While you're waiting for the racers, why not join a drumming circle? Or get up and dance? Children can get their faces painted — probably adults as well — and can receive balloon creations.

You can enjoy music provided by the Buford High jazz band. Walk to Scott and Main and watch a BMX bike show, just to marvel at these acrobatic riders.

The Tour de Georgia leaders are expected to reach Main Street shortly after noon. You will see a rainbow of colors, hear gears turning efficiently and feel a breeze as they fly past.

It's quite exciting, even inspiring. The tour's Stage 6 will continue from Buford to Barrow, Walton and Newton counties, before going through a sliver of south Gwinnett and into Stone Mountain Park.
