12-year-old boy accidentally shoots little brother

A 10-year-old Fayetteville boy remained in intensive care Sunday after his 12-year-old brother accidentally shot him in the head.

The boy shot his younger sibling as the two were playing outside around 1:30 p.m. Saturday near their Edmondson Way home, Lt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said.

The younger boy was flown by medical helicopter to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in critical condition, McCastle said.

A hospital spokesperson said late Saturday the boy had been moved to intensive care.

The weapon, a 9mm pistol, belonged to the boys’ father, who was at home at the time of the shooting, McCastle said.

No charges have been filed. The investigation into the shooting continues, McCastle said.
