Peachtree City mayor Harold Logsdon announced his candidacy Saturday for Georgia Insurance Commissioner.

“I believe that life is not about self, but about service to others,” Logsdon said in a statement made Saturday morning at a meeting for the Fayette County Republican party.

Logsdon has been mayor of Peachtree City since he won a run-off in December 2005 against then-incumbent mayor Steve Brown.

The insurance commissioner position will be vacant in 2010, when fellow Republican and current commissioner John Oxendine joins what has become a crowded gubernatorial ballot.
